A thousand and one leagues is the distance one must travel downward from the Citadel at the middle of the world in order to reach the end of the trials of the Waking God. The bottom of the world is where that path leads.
Each year, many brave nobles and adventurers venture forth to gain prestige and glory. Most turn back relatively soon, having reached the goals their families and prides have set for them. However, some, more courageous – or foolish – than the rest plunge deeper. Of those who have returned, the one who became the Emperor of mighty Zera has reached the farthest: almost two hundred leagues.
There is more reason than just proving oneself to descend into the caverns of the Waking God; though no one knows who could have started it, rumour has it that if one were to reach the end, they could wish for anything at all. Maybe that legend comes from someone who vanquished the challenges. Maybe that someone is the Waking God. No one knows with any certainty, but soon that, like everything else, will change.
In this series, we follow the young noble Exa Callis as she begins a journey that will take her farther than she could have guessed. She will meet many strange beings and see sights virgin to living eyes, her only companion a strange guide, Takhris, who seems to be much more interested than Exa in her following through with her adventure.
